While living on a houseboat in Northern California, Susan became so inspired by Meggie’s joyful, loving spirit, the magical qualities of the docks and their extraordinary setting that she completed her first children’s picture book and series. Susan continues to be inspired by the beauty and everyday magic that surrounds her. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. A Big Day for a Little Dog received the 2019 Beverly Hills Book Finalist Award in both picture book and pets/animals categories. The second book of this series is scheduled to be released the fall of 2020 with the character’s continuing adventures.

Valery loves all kinds of creatures that swim in the sea and walk on land. Having the opportunity to illustrate a book about a curious, little dog who has a great connection with the Bay and the delightful characters that live in it and around it, has been a truly rich experience for her.
